Jean de Waurin's Chronicle of England Volume 6 Books 3-6: The Wars of the Roses

Jean de Waurin was a French Chronicler, from the Artois region, who was born around 1400, and died around 1474. Waurin’s Chronicle of England, Volume 6, covering the period 1450 to 1471, from which we have selected and translated Chapters relating to the Wars of the Roses, provides a vivid, original, contemporary description of key events some of which he witnessed first-hand, some of which he was told by the key people involved with whom Waurin had a personal relationship.

Richard Kay-Shuttleworth 2nd Baron Shuttleworth 1913-1940

On 1st February 1913 [his father] Captain Lawrence Ughtred Kay-Shuttleworth [aged 25] and [his mother] Selina Adine Bridgeman [aged 26] were married.

On 30th October 1913 Richard Kay-Shuttleworth 2nd Baron Shuttleworth was born to Captain Lawrence Ughtred Kay-Shuttleworth [aged 26] and Selina Adine Bridgeman [aged 27].

On 30th March 1917 [his father] Captain Lawrence Ughtred Kay-Shuttleworth [aged 29] was killed in action at Vimy Ridge. He was buried at the Villers Station Cemetery, CWGC Cemetery/Memorial, Villers Au Bois, France.

In 1937 Richard Kay-Shuttleworth 2nd Baron Shuttleworth [aged 23] elected as a member of Lancashire County Council.

On 20th December 1939 [his grandfather] Ughtred Kay-Shuttleworth 1st Baron Shuttleworth [aged 95] died. His grandson Richard [aged 26] succeeded 2nd Baron Shuttleworth of Gawthorpe in Lancashire, Richard Kay-Shuttleworth 2nd Baron Shuttleworth, 3rd Baronet Kay-Shuttleworth of Gawthorpe Hall in Lancashire. he inherited Gawthorpe Hall [Map].

On 11th July 1940 Richard Kay-Shuttleworth 2nd Baron Shuttleworth [aged 26] shared in the destruction of a He111, on the 29th he shared a Ju88 and on 1st August he shared a Hs126.

On 8th August 1940 Richard Kay-Shuttleworth 2nd Baron Shuttleworth [aged 26] was killed in action when his Hawker Hurricane went missing during a battle over a convoy in the English Channel, south of the Isle of Wight. He was a Flying Officer with 145 Sqdn. Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve; Service No: 70356. His brother Ronald [aged 22] succeeded 3rd Baron Shuttleworth of Gawthorpe in Lancashire, 4th Baronet Kay-Shuttleworth of Gawthorpe Hall in Lancashire. He would be killed in action two years and three months later.
