Biography of Charles Gordon-Lennox 7th Duke Richmond 1845-1928

On 28th November 1843 [his father] Charles Gordon-Lennox 6th Duke Richmond (age 25) and [his mother] Frances Harriett Greville Duchess Richmond (age 19) were married. He the son of [his grandfather] Charles Gordon-Lennox 5th Duke Richmond (age 52) and [his grandmother] Caroline Paget Duchess Richmond (age 47). They were sixth cousins. He a great x 4 grandson of King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland.

On 27th December 1845 Charles Gordon-Lennox 7th Duke Richmond was born to Charles Gordon-Lennox 6th Duke Richmond (age 27) and Frances Harriett Greville Duchess Richmond (age 21).

On 10th November 1868 Charles Gordon-Lennox 7th Duke Richmond (age 22) and Amy Mary Ricardo (age 21) were married. He the son of Charles Gordon-Lennox 6th Duke Richmond (age 50) and Frances Harriett Greville Duchess Richmond (age 44).

On 30th December 1870 [his son] Charles Gordon-Lennox 8th Duke Richmond was born to Charles Gordon-Lennox 7th Duke Richmond (age 25) and [his wife] Amy Mary Ricardo (age 23).

On 23rd April 1872 [his daughter] Evelyn Gordon-Lennox was born to Charles Gordon-Lennox 7th Duke Richmond (age 26) and [his wife] Amy Mary Ricardo (age 24).

On 23rd August 1873 [his wife] Amy Mary Ricardo (age 26) died.

The Queen has also been pleased to direct Letters Patent to be passed under the said Great Seal, granting the dignities of a Viscount and Earl of the said United Kingdom to Edward Montagu Stuart Granville, Lord Wharncliffe (age 48), and the heirs male of his body lawfully begotten, by the names, styles, and titles of Viscount Carlton, of Carlton, and Earl of Wharncliffe, bdth in the West Riding of the County of York; with remainder, in default of such issue male, to the Honourable Francis Dudley Stuart-Wortley (age 46) (brother of the said Edward Montagu Stuart Granville, Lord Wharncliffe), and the heirs male of his body lawfully begotten.

On 13th December 1886 [his daughter] Helen Gordon-Lennox Duchess Northumberland was born to Charles Gordon-Lennox 7th Duke Richmond (age 40) and [his wife] Isabel Sophie Craven (age 23).

All About History Books

The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 4th January 1896 [his son-in-law] John Richard Geers Cotterell 4th Baronet (age 29) and [his daughter] Evelyn Gordon-Lennox (age 23) were married. She the daughter of Charles Gordon-Lennox 7th Duke Richmond (age 50) and [his former wife] Amy Mary Ricardo.

On 27th September 1903 [his father] Charles Gordon-Lennox 6th Duke Richmond (age 85) died. His son Charles (age 57) succeeded 7th Duke Richmond, 2nd Duke Gordon, 7th Earl March, 7th Baron Settrington.

In 1905 Charles Gordon-Lennox 7th Duke Richmond (age 59) was appointed 829th Knight of the Garter by King Edward VII of the United Kingdom (age 63).

On 18th November 1911 [his son-in-law] Alan Ian Percy 8th Duke Northumberland (age 31) and [his daughter] Helen Gordon-Lennox Duchess Northumberland (age 24) were married. She the daughter of Charles Gordon-Lennox 7th Duke Richmond (age 65) and [his former wife] Isabel Sophie Craven. He the son of Henry George Percy 7th Duke Northumberland (age 65) and Edith Campbell Duchess Northumberland (age 62). They were fifth cousins.

On 17th February 1922 [his daughter] Evelyn Gordon-Lennox (age 49) died.

On 18th January 1928 Charles Gordon-Lennox 7th Duke Richmond (age 82) died. His son [his son] Charles (age 57) succeeded 8th Duke Richmond, 3rd Duke Gordon, 8th Earl March, 8th Baron Settrington. [his daughter-in-law] Hilda Madeline Brassey Duchess Richmond (age 55) by marriage Duchess Richmond, Duchess Gordon.
