The Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke. Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson. Available at Amazon in eBook and Paperback.

On 24th November 1872 [his daughter] Hilda Mary Dundas Baroness Southampton was born to Lawrence Dundas 1st Marquess Zetland (age 28) and [his wife] Lilian Selina Elizabeth Lumley Marchioness Zetland (age 21).
On 6th May 1873 [his uncle] Thomas Laurence Dundas 2nd Earl Zetland (age 78) died at his home Aske Hall North Yorkshire. His nephew Lawrence (age 28) succeeded 3rd Earl Zetland aka Shetland, 4th Baron Dundas, 5th Baronet Dundas of Kerse.
On 19th January 1874 [his son] Thomas Dundas was born to Lawrence Dundas 1st Marquess Zetland (age 29) and [his wife] Lilian Selina Elizabeth Lumley Marchioness Zetland (age 22).
On 11th February 1874 [his son] Thomas Dundas died.
On 11th June 1876 [his son] Lawrence John Lumley Dundas 2nd Marquess Zetland was born to Lawrence Dundas 1st Marquess Zetland (age 31) and [his wife] Lilian Selina Elizabeth Lumley Marchioness Zetland (age 24).
On 9th July 1877 [his daughter] Maud Frederica Elizabeth Dundas Countess Fitzwilliam was born to Lawrence Dundas 1st Marquess Zetland (age 32) and [his wife] Lilian Selina Elizabeth Lumley Marchioness Zetland (age 25).

On 5th December 1884 [his father-in-law] Richard Lumley 9th Earl Scarborough (age 71) died. On 5th December 1884 His son [his brother-in-law] Aldred (age 27) succeeded 10th Earl of Scarborough, 11th Viscount Lumley, 10th Baron Lumley.
On 9th July 1892 [his son-in-law] Charles Fitzroy 4th Baron Southampton (age 25) and [his daughter] Hilda Mary Dundas Baroness Southampton (age 19) were married. She by marriage Baroness Southampton. She the daughter of Lawrence Dundas 1st Marquess Zetland (age 47) and [his wife] Lilian Selina Elizabeth Lumley Marchioness Zetland (age 40).
